Standing on the top of Zhurong Peak, you can see the distant villages and nearby cloud sea. On the sunny day, you can also overlook the boats and ships in the Xiangjiang River, and at night, the lights on the fishing boats can be seen clearly. The three great joys in this spot are to see the sun rise up and down, and appreciate the snow scenery.

Zhurong Peak is the highest among the“Four Best Sceneries of Mountain Hengshan”. As the highest and main peak among 72 peaks of this mountain, it is tall and straight higher than such peaks as Furong, Zigai, Tianzhu, Xiangguang, Yanxia, Tiansu, etc. It gets its name because of the God of Fire, Zhu Rong. Tradition has it that he is an official of Xuan Yuan Huangdi in the ancient times. Human beings could not keep and use fire after they made fire by drilling wood. Zhu Rong became an expert to manage and use fire because of his close relationship to it. Huangdi appointed him the post to manage fire. He was also appointed as minister of land and people managing the affairs in the south. He lived in Mountain Hengshan, and was buried there. In order to memorize his great contributions, the highest peak of Mountain Hengshan is named Zhurong Peak. According to the archaism, the character “zhu” stands for permanence, and “rong” for light, making him lighted for ever.

A terrace to watch moon lies in the west of Zhurong Palace. It is, in particular, bright and beautiful with the full moon light shining everywhere. Compared with the flat land, the tourists here can enjoy vivid and profound scenery standing on the terrace and watching the moon. It still remains afterglow even though it sets down to the west. Just as what the poem written by Sun Yingao in the Ming Dynasty, “The bright vigor has fainted in the world, but the light here still remains as before.” We can imagine this splendid scenery from his words.

The scenic spots include: Shangfeng Temple, Sun Watching Terrace, Laosheng Palace, Moon Watching Terrace, the Immortals Meeting Bridge, the Arhat Cave, Buyu Rock, Gaotai Temple, Shizi Rock, Southern Gate of Heaven, Huangdi Rock, etc.
